I ‘member UTS

December 5th, 2016

I ‘member the good old time, you ‘member? – South Park

It’s been almost 6 months since I completed my almost 6 year degree in UTS. And now thinking back, I kinda miss being a student. Of course doing what a love at an amazing job that I got is great, however that feeling of going to university to learn, and socialise is something that I started to miss over the past few months. Of course I can say that I’ve had the best time of my life while at university and that I owe this to the amazing people that made that time so… well… amazing! However I am still involved in anime@UTS and to some extent JASS, so I can’t say that I’ve left campus life for good.

The reason for this reminiscing post is because I stumbled upon an article written by UTS International Office – about me! I did an interview with them and got them to take my photo, but never actually saw it used anywhere, but then today I did a Google search for my name (Vadims Brodskis) I came across this article. Isn’t it cool! Hopefully this stays on the site for ever, or at least a long long time, then I can say that I have made history! And with such a quote:

With the knowledge UTS has given me, I’m confident I can enter the job market, show them that I’m amazing and make then hire me.

Now, how many of you have your own university page?

Anime Day 16

October 1st, 2015

Day 16 – Favorite anime ending theme song

This is tough one! Ending themes are usually not as flashy and in your face, so they might not be as memorable. The most memorable for me would be the first FMA 2003 ED, I loved it so much when I was just getting into anime. But Clara already talked about it, in her post, so thats out of the question. Then I thought about looking at my iTunes play count, and see what ED I have listened to the most: that would be ED 4 from S2 of Nyaruko. I just like the melody and beat, plus Kuuko is just sah kawaii. Not far behind is LOVE & ROLL by YanagiNagi, the ED for Cencorol, but that doesn’t have any animation, just the music. So in the end I decided to go with the ED for one of the most underrated anime of the past generation: Shinsekai Yori (From a New World).

The song Wareta Ringo (Split Apple) was played throughout the first part of the series as the OP and ED of the show. It doesn’t have an OP, so when we first heard the ED it took the place of both. The music is actually takes a rather unique approach to the lyrics as half way through, it splits into 2 vocals and they go consecutively, but the meaning behind the lyrics only makes sense if you listen to them separately. You’ll see what I mean if you listen to the song with subs (if you don’t know Japanese).

After this I feel like doing a Music Monday again… I should ask the anime@UTS webmaster about that.

anime@UTS does hanami

August 30th, 2015

As per tradition, every year anime@UTS heads over to Auburn to experience the beauty of the Japanese sakura trees.  This year was no different. Unfortunately due to the large storm that hit Sydney the previous Monday, there weren’t many blossoms left, but enough to get us excited and to take so many beautiful photos. This year it wasn’t just UTS who attended either, all of AnimeSydney  was there together! If you have never seen Japanese sakura, you should defintelly check out Auburn next year in September. I know for sure that we will be there again.

Cosplaying

September 21st, 2014

cosplay

Cosplay, its an art of dressing up as a character from a TV series, movie, game or any other form of media. You get to pretend to be your favourite character, maybe act out a scene or two from the show/game.

My friends from anime@uts and JASS are doing this thing on Facebook where they talk about their cosplay experiences and tag other people to do it too. So I have been tagged, and instead of posting it on Facebook (ugh Facebook), I’m gonna talk about it here, on my blog.

Ruben Schade

!Ruben

I don’t write about people, heck I don’t even talk to people unless we have something in common. There are only a few people that have had a big influence on my life, I call them my sempais, my shishos, my senseis, my mentors. This post is kind of like a reply post, but also as a thank you post.

Embarrassing, Shy, Socially awkward. Yes those are words that would fit us well, don’t you agree Ruben? But yet, we somehow managed to talk to each other and start this ball rolling, and hey, I could’t have wished for a better first university friend then you!

Weekend with Drawing Circle

November 11th, 2013

DC_Goya

As you know I am the screenings director for Anime@UTS and an active member of JASS, but as of last year I also joined a newly formed club called: the Drawing Circle. As the name implies its a club of artistic people who love to draw, sketch, design and just make pretty things. Well I have quite a few friends there and so I decided to join as well, cause why not, however I haven’t really gone to any events, aside from the joint Pokemon event with the anime club. So now that I am dating a girl who is pretty much an exec of that club (not really but kinda), I though it would be nice to come to their events as well.

Cherry Blossom Picnic Again

August 25th, 2013

cherryBlossom2013

1 year ago my close friends Cindy and Sashin organized an event to see the cherry blossoms in Auburn (and I blogged about it). It was amazing, even though we were a bit late and most of the flowers have already finished blooming and had fallen, but we had lots of fun nevertheless. Well this year was even better!
